“Affirmations can really help us flip the script.” – Sue Ross

I’m sure you know what IQ is, but do you know what EQ is???

EQ stands for Emotional Intelligence.

My guest on Coaches Go Social this week is holistic business coach, Sue Ross.

She frames her work around emotional intelligence and uses it to shift her clients’ mindset and help them overcome their business challenges.

After pivoting from the corporate world to entrepreneurship after having children (like me!), Sue had a light bulb moment:

She realized we can read about self-development and business growth until we are blue in the face, but if we don’t fully believe in ourselves, and we are allowing ourselves to be a victim to limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging ways then it can really prevent us from moving forward in our business.

So true!

From then on Sue was hooked! She knew she wanted to use emotional intelligence as the framework around her coaching.

She discovered if she started with the insights into a client’s emotional intelligence, it provides a clear path to solving their business challenges.

The first thing Sue does with a client, as a certified EQ coach, is administer the EQ-i 2.0 assessment, which is the leading scientifically-validated EQ assessment.

The assessment measures five realms of a person’s EQ:

Interpersonal skills

Decision making

Stress management

(along with 3 sub-skills for each realm)

Fascinating, right?!?

This assessment is extremely important to Sue’s process because she believes that she can’t help her clients address their business challenges until she addresses the deeper stuff going on from what is actually holding them back from taking action.

We all have moments, I’m sure, sometimes where we let limiting beliefs or negative self-talk slip into our day-to-day.

Sue says one powerful tool to combat self-sabotaging talk and beliefs are affirmations.

She recommends writing down any limiting belief a person has and creating a correlating affirmation. Then post that up where you can see it. Or if you want to take it one step further, create voice affirmations and listen to them to start rewiring your brain.

Wow! Powerful stuff!
